Bible literalism 'pagan superstition'?

Vatican astronomer Guy Consolmagno says believing God created the universe in six days is a form of "pagan superstition."

Consolmagno told the Scotsman the idea that religion and science are competing principles is a "destructive myth."

I just read the article. I am so dumb when it comes to this kind of thinking. I am not sure what I think of what he wrote, but my initial thought is that if I cannot take the Gensis literally, or exactly the way it is written, how can I believe anything in the bible.

All I know is that when I look into the blue of my son's eyes, and see the amazing smile on his younger brother, I have no choice but to wholeheartedly believe my God, that I choose to serve each day, created the world we live in. No science theory could ever have made eyes that color.
